Born March 26th, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa
First female crossing guard in the state of Iowa while in fourth grade and as such was acknowledged in the Des Moines Register newspaper.
An avid athlete Rita bought her own football with babysitting money when her brothers wouldn’t let her play with them.
Rita played softball and captained her team. She also was invited to play with a topnotch black girls’ team in regional tournaments.
While in high school at all girls Immaculate Conception Academy she was on the cheerleading squad for the cross-town boys’ school, Saint Ambrose Academy.
Rita volunteered for many years at Medfield State Hospital. Rita also was quite active in volunteering for the seniors at Saint Theresa Parish in Sherborn. In later life Rita seriously pursued tennis and played competitively for many years. Rita was a member of Brae Burn Country Club for the past 45 years where she particularly enjoyed playing with the “Nine Hole” ladies group.
Rita loved children and our gang to this day talks about their great childhood memories. Rita went on to spread her love of children to sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren in our wonderfully blended family. Rita was often referred to as “Professional Grandmother: Have car seat will travel” as a result of the care and assistance she provided both daughters and daughters in law whenever there was a new birth in the family.
