Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" Dewar
Margaret Maude Golding-Dewar passed away peacefully June 1st at the Maples Rehab Center in Wrentham. She was 106 years old.
Born in Somerville, MA on January 3, 1911, she was the oldest child of the late Emily Maud and Harrison James Golding. Peg lived most of her adult life in Medfield.
Peg graduated Norwood High School in 1928 and began her career as a copy girl at the Norwood Press eventually becoming a proofreader; proofing books in English, Spanish, French and German. When the Norwood Press ceased operations she continued her career at the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald.
Peg had a life-long love of travel that took her many places around the world. A daily crossword puzzle and a good game of Scrabble were her favorite past times. She enjoyed concerts, plays and keeping up with current events. She will be remembered for her strong dedication to family and friends, her keen mind and joyful spirit.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Norwood all her life, and a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Medfield.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families including Janet Avery with whom she lived from 2009-2014; and her beloved friends James and Muriel McDonald and their family. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Dewar of Medfield and her eight brothers and sisters and godson & nephew David Down of Norfolk.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 150 Chapel Street in Norwood on Tuesday, June 6, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the church. Interment will be private.
