Obituary

Of Millis, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, August 28, 2020. He was 81 years old.

Lewis was born in New York City on February 26, 1939 to the late Benjamin and Celia (Geller) Bergins.

He grew up in Long Beach and graduated from their public school system in 1956. Afterwards, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where, graduating in 1960, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

He put his degree to good use over the years, working for Raytheon, Incoterm, Microcom, and Mapletree Networks of which he was a founder, President and CEO. His work allowed him to travel quite a bit in Europe and Asia; one of his favorite places was Prague, in the Czech Republic.

Although he was a Massachusetts resident, Lewis was a lifelong Yankees fan, but he felt that was evened out as he was also a huge Patriots fan.

Lewis was preceded in death by his wife Connie (Cole) Bergins and his son Michael S. Bergins, and is survived by his daughter Deborah G. Bergins. Lewis is also survived by his brother Paul Bergins and his wife Joy of White Plains, New York, and his three nieces Jana Bergins of Great Barrington, MA, Pamela Bergins of White Plans, NY, and Toni Bergins of Springfield, MA, and his beloved Old English Sheepdog, Watson.

A graveside Service will be celebrated for Lewis on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Auburn Rd., Millis, MA 02054. Face coverings will be required and we respectfully ask that everyone adheres to safe social distancing practices.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lewis’ name to the Barry L. Price Center which was near and dear to Lewis and where, for a time, he served on the Board of Directors. Checks payable to “The Price Center” can be mailed to The Price Center, Development Office, 27 Christina Street, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02461-1955, or click the link below.

My heart felt condolences on your loss Deborah. I met And worked with Lew at Microcom, he later served as a board member at Intec Controls where I got work with him again, and then at Mapletree. We had a falling out at Mapletree, which I was to blame for. We later reconciled which speaks to the character of the man. I will always remember him as a mentor and friend.

Our sincere condolences. Lew brought Neil to the US to work for him at Incoterm over 40 years ago and they became great friends. I worked there too and always respected Lew as a very wise and great man. If it weren’t for him Neil and I would not have met and married. We stayed in touch and Lew just sent me a positive message earlier this week. He will be missed.
